File this one under “R”, for Ridiculously COOL!  The kind folks at Design Commission have created an aluminum stencil in the shape of an iPhone. It features all the uniquely iPhone shapes and icons that any designer would need when sketching out their latest and greatest iPhone App. I haven’t done any iPhone App designing [...]

Ok, I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything on here, I’m sorry. I have been uber busy lately. When I get busy, my posting gets lousy. Bad. I’m working on some ways to help keep this blog breathing in the midst of my swamped schedule. One such attempt is what I have aptly titled: Text Effect Tuesday! (exclamation NOT optional). The idea is surely nothing new or ground breaking, but hopefully it will help me stay on task with regular posting. here is the low down. Every Tuesday I’ll try to post a tutorial involving some sort of typography. Maybe Illustrator, maybe Photoshop, maybe original, maybe linked from another design site.

Today’s Text Effect comes from PSDFAN. It’s tutorial on creating a smokey effect for your text. Not only does this tutorial walk you through the process in 12 easy steps, it provides you with source links for the files you’ll need, courtesy of Stock.XCHNG. (They’re all free!) Here is a preview of the final outcome below. Follow the link for the complete guide. Check it out!

This is such a cool idea! I don’t think Bittbox was the first, GoMedia did something similar, but it’s cool none-the-less. Here’s the deal: Bittbox, a rad designer/blogger/leprechaun tosser, decided to yet again make his knowledge base available to the design community, this time via Twitter. Any designers that needed to know a quick tip or trick regarding their designs could tweet the need to Bittbox. Shortly after, he composed those tweets into a very informative tutorial-esque post. This is definitely a great use if the all might tweet. We need to keep things like this going. Thanks Bittbox. Check it out!

Speaking of design+tweet, if you haven’t added your name to our list of designers that are on twitter, please do so. The list is getting big so take a look at it and make some new Twitter friends. Check it out!
